Big Rock Adventures
Hiking and swimming down a slippery stream or river corridor while wearing wetsuits and other safety gear. Constant movement, in a pristine environment. Sometimes we climb down through sections of boulders and over and between fallen trees. When we get to the waterfalls we use special canyoning harnesses and ropes to connect ourselves to safety lines so we can approach the edge safely. At high waterfalls, or when it is shallow below we abseil or zipline. If it is deep enough and suitable, we lie back and slide off the waterfall edge... if you like to free fall? Then stand firm, take a breath and jump!
The Risks Involved
Canyoning takes place in a natural environment that can be unpredictable. Wet rocks, moving water, changing weather, and varying terrain all contribute to the adventure — and to the potential hazards.
Possible risks include:
-
Slips and falls on wet or uneven surfaces
-
Bumps and bruises
-
Sprains or broken bones
-
Impact injuries from jumping or sliding
-
Exposure to cold water
-
In rare and extreme cases, serious trauma or even death
For a complete list of all the possible risks please read our Risk Acknowledgment & Fitness Declaration.
