Big Rock Adventures

Canyoning is, by its very nature, an adventure activity. It involves making your way down a flowing stream, navigating wet and slippery terrain, scrambling over rocks, swimming through pools, and sometimes reaching the top of waterfalls where you may choose to jump into deep water below. Like any adventure sport, it carries inherent risks — but when done correctly, with proper guidance and preparation, canyoning is both safe and incredibly rewarding.

If you know how to jump, where to land, and how to move safely through dynamic water environments, canyoning is quite safe. It is also a whole lot of fun.

The Risks Involved

Canyoning takes place in a natural environment that can be unpredictable. Wet rocks, moving water, changing weather, and varying terrain all contribute to the adventure — and to the potential hazards.

Possible risks include:

  • Slips and falls on wet or uneven surfaces

  • Bumps and bruises

  • Sprains or broken bones

  • Impact injuries from jumping or sliding

  • Exposure to cold water

  • In rare and extreme cases, serious trauma or even death

While these risks are real, serious incidents are uncommon when trips are professionally guided and participants follow instructions carefully. An action-packed, enjoyable experience is far more likely.

How We Manage Your Safety

Your safety is our highest priority. To ensure this, we operate under a documented Safety Management System that carries the AdventureMark brand. This means our systems, procedures, and operational standards meet strict safety guidelines.

We further protect your experience by:

  • Employing highly qualified, internationally experienced guides

  • Using modern, fit-for-purpose equipment

  • Logging, maintaining, and monitoring all technical gear

  • Conducting thorough risk assessments

  • Operating with in-depth local knowledge of our canyons

As locals, we know our canyons, the hazards, and the risks like the back of our hand. We assess water levels, weather conditions, and site-specific features before every trip.

Your Role in Staying Safe

Canyoning is a team activity. Your safety also depends on:

  • Listening carefully to your guide

  • Following instructions at all times

  • Jumping only when and where instructed

  • Being honest about your fitness, health, and confidence levels

  • Wearing provided safety equipment correctly

Before participating, we ask all guests to read and complete our Risk Acknowledgment & Fitness Declaration. We want every participant to be informed, prepared, and comfortable before joining our adventures.
